Methodist Falls to St. Andrews 18-7
Senior Lauren McGonagle scores three goals and notches an assist in the loss

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- After being shutout in the first half, the Monarchs came out fighting in the second half.  Despite losing the game 18-7, Methodist showed signs of improvement outscoring St. Andrews 7-6 in the second half.  Methodist starts the season 0-1 while St. Andrews moves to 2-1 on the year.

St. Andrews struck early scoring seventeen seconds into the game on a goal by Kelsey Binggeli.  The Knights rattled off eleven more goals in the first half while the Monarchs' were held scoreless.  Methodist had 15 shots, but Knights' goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey made 13 saves in the half.

The second half proved to be more even with the Monarchs scoring first on a goal by senior Lauren McGonagle.  Junior Bridget Holcomb scored two consecutive goals to move within nine, but St. Andrews countered with a goal of their own.  McGonagle and Holcomb finished with three goals a piece while sophomore Andrea DiStefano scored one. 

Methodist freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray finished the game with 11 saves including two stops on free position attempts by the Knights.  The Monarchs were most effective when earning the draw control.  The team scored on four of the six possessions in which they earned the draw.

The Monarchs will open conference play on Feburary 24 at Greensboro at 1 pm.
