February 20, 2008 LAURINBURG, N.C.— The Methodist women's lacrosse team opened the 2008 season at NCAA Division II St. Andrews. St. Andrews took the lead early and went on to win 16-5 over the Monarchs. Methodist starts the season 0-1 while St. Andrews moves to 2-1 this season. St. Andrew's Kerrie Brown opened the scoring for St. Andrews in the first minute of play. The Knights took a 3-0 lead before Methodist junior Andrea DiStefano got the Monarchs on the board with a goal in the sixth minute of the game. St. Andrews scored two more goals, but Methodist responded with a goal by Ann Ferrara on a free position shot. The Knights finished the half with four more goals to take a 9-2 lead at halftime. DiStefano opened the scoring in the second half with a crease roll, but the Knights fired off another four goals. Senior Christina Layson scored the Monarchs' fourth goal of the game to close the lead to nine. St. Andrews scored another two goals before Methodist senior Chrystal Bradley picked the ball up at midfield and drove to goal for the score. St. Andrews finished with one more goal for the 16-5 win. Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray made nine saves for Methodist. Erin McCaffrey had five stops for the Knights. Methodist will host Shenandoah in their first conference game Saturday at 1 pm. |
