March 29, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC— Methodist scored the first goal of the game, but Sweet Briar used a four goal rally late in the first half to hold on for the 14-11 win. Methodist drops to 3-8 overall while Sweet Briar stands at 3-4 this season. Junior Andrea DiStefano scored the first goal of the game just a minute and a half into play on the assist from senior Chrystal Bradley. The Vixens tied it up but senior Christina Layson countered for the Monarchs on a free position. Sweet Briar scored the next three goals but sophomore Krystal Poirier scored on an assist from DiStefano and Bradley got one on a free position to tie the game at four. Sweet Briar went on a four goal run before DiStefano scored a free position shot. Sweet Briar scored the final two goals of the half to lead 10-5 at halftime. Sweet Briar scored the first goal of the half, but Layson scored an unassisted goal for Methodist. Sweet Briar countered before Methodist scored back-to-back goals from Layson and DiStefano to cut the lead to four. The Vixen scored again but Bradley scored her second goal of the game with 10:12 on the clock. Just fifteen seconds later Sweet Briar scored on a free position. DiStefano moved the Monarchs to within four again with 7:05 to go, but the Vixens held onto the ball until freshman Brittny Waldron scored on a free position goal with 1:17 left in the game. The Monarchs pushed for another late goal, but Sweet Briar took the 14-11 win. Sophomore Lindsey Cosgray had 10 saves for Methodist while Lisa Weisbrich made 16 stops for Sweet Briar. Methodist will play at Lees-McRae Apr. 5 at 2 pm. |
