Sweet Briar Defeats Methodist 13-12
Adama Abramson scores the first goal on a free position shot

SWEET BRIAR, VA — Methodist and Sweet Briar women's lacrosse battled it out on Wednesday afternoon in a game of six ties and two lead changes before the Monarchs fell 13-12 in the final thirty seconds.  Methodist finishes their season 6-11 while Sweet Briar moves to 4-11.

Methodist scored first in the fifth minute of the game when Adama Abramson was awarded a free position shot on the eight meter.  Andrea DiStefano followed up with a goal on the assist from Bridget Holcomb.  The Vixens scored the next four goals in less than two minutes to take a 4-2 lead.  Lauren McGonagle scored for the Monarchs to move within one, but Sweet Briar countered with a goal of their own.  DiStefano and Jessica Lutzow scored unassisted goals to tie the game at five with 11:34 remaining in the half.  Sweet Briar scored the final four goals of the half to take a 9-5 lead at halftime.

The Monarchs answered in the second half scoring the first four goals of the half.  DiStefano opened the scoring with an unassisted goal before McGonagle followed up with three consecutive goals in less than four minutes tying the game at nine.  Sweet Briar scored their first goal of the half fifteen minutes in, but Holcomb tied the game on the assist from DiStefano.  The teams continued to exchange goals before Holcomb tied the game at 12 with 5:15 to go in the game.  Both teams' defense held the offenses scoreless until the Vixen's Julie Sellers scored the game-winning goal with just 29 seconds on the clock. 

Methodist goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray and Sweet Briar goalkeeper Emily Fitzpatrick each made ten stops in the game.
