March 7, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC — Methodist and Wesley battled steady rain to a tied game at halftime. Wesley used a four goal run in the second half to take the 16-12 win. Methodist moves to 2-4 on the season while Wesley improves to 2-1 overall. Junior Andrea DiStefano scored the first goal of the game for Methodist on the dish from senior Chrystal Bradley. Wesley came back and scored two, but DiStefano tied the game with her second goal after the assist from junior Ann Ferrara. Wesley went up 3-2 but senior Christina Layson gave the Monarchs a 4-3 lead on back-to-back goals, the second on another assist from Ferrara. Wesley tied it again, but Layson and Bradley each scored goals just 15 seconds apart to take a 6-4 lead. Wesley scored, but junior Diane Doroftei countered for Methodist on the free position shot. The Wolverines scored on their own free position shot before sophomore Krystal Poirier drove in for her unassisted goal. Wesley scored two more goals before halftime to tie the score at eight. Wesley took an early lead on a free position shot, but Methodist regained the advantage after goals from Bradley and Ferrara while DiStefano picked up the assist. Wesley tied the game on a free position shot, but Bradley fed DiStefano for the 11-10 lead. The Monarchs' lead was short-lived as the Wolverines rattled off the next four goals for the 14-11 lead. Bradley put a stop to the run on the assist from Ferrara, but Wesley held the Monarchs scoreless for the final six and a half minutes of the game. Wesley scored twice more for the 16-12 win. Bradley led the Monarchs with five points on three goals and two assists. Layson and DiStefano also scored three goals while Ferrara finished with four points on a goal and three assists. Sophomore Lindsey Cosgray made 16 saves for Methodist while Wesley's Farryn Kauffman had 15 stops. Methodist will play Emerson on Sunday at 2 pm at St. Catherine's Goochland Fields in Richmond, Va. |
