March 4, 2008 HILTON HEAD, SC— The Methodist lacrosse team battled the weather on Tuesday to face Wilkes University. The Colonels used a late five goal run in the first half to win 14-10. The Monarchs move to 2-3 on the season while Wilkes stands at 1-1 overall. Wilkes was able to score the first goal of the game, but Methodist came right back and tied it up on a goal from junior Andrea DiStefano. The Colonels took a 3-1 lead, but the Monarchs tied it again on goals from junior Ann Ferrara and DiStefano. Wilkes scored two more, but Methodist junior Kelsie Britt cut the lead to one with a goal. The Colonels went on a five goal run to finish the first half with a 10-4 advantage. Methodist senior Christina Layson scored a free position goal to start the second half, but Wilkes countered with two goals. Layson scored another goal before Wilkes added another. Layson responded with a goal off the free position shot and senior Chrystal Bradley tallied two goals to move within four goals. Wilkes stopped the run with a goal before DiStefano finished the scoring with a free position goal. The Colonels finished with the 14-10 win. DiStefano and Layson each scored three goals for the Monarchs. Methodist will return to Fayetteville to host Wesley on Friday at 1 pm. |
