September 29, 2007 DANVILLE, VA- The Methodist women's soccer kept their winning ways on Saturday with a 9-0 shutout victory over Averett. The Monarchs improve to 8-1 this season and 3-0 in the USA South while Averett falls to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the conference. Senior Brenda Chambers opened the scoring for the Monarchs in the seventh minute. Sophomore Erica Nath scored the second goal on an assist from sophomore Whitney Roberson. Roberson followed up with a goal of her own just 24 seconds later. In the 31st minute, freshman Kasey Nichols dished one out to freshman Catherine Ramsay for the third goal of the game. Freshman Hevyn Diers scored on an unassisted goal in the 34th minute before senior Chrystal Bradley gave the Monarchs a 6-0 lead at halftime on a goal with the assist from Ramsay. In the second half, freshman Brianna Cella scored followed up by another goal from Chambers. Nichols capped off the scoring on the assist from senior Marie Finley in the 76th minute of play. Freshman Emily Stratton earned the shutout in goal for the Monarchs. Tunisa Bumphus and Alicia McSweeney combined in goal for the Cougars to make 14 saves. Methodist will take on Lynchburg Sunday at 2 pm. |
