November 3, 2006 It took the Monarchs some time to get things started but junior Brenda Chambers knocked the first one in on a long pass from freshman Erica Nath to freshman Whitney Roberson who slotted Chambers through the defense to beat the keeper in the 17th minute. Almost fifteen minutes later freshman Michelle Anderson split the defense for Roberson to score. The Monarchs were leading 2-0 when Averett was able to counter with an attack by Lisa Witt. Witt gained possession of the ball and slipped one under Monarchs goalkeeper Amanda Evans. The Monarchs buckled down to score another goal in the first half. Chambers found junior Marie Finley up top who scored to give the Monarchs the 3-1 lead. In the second half, junior Chrystal Bradley came out to score both of her goals. In the 48th minute, she gathered the ball and blasted one from the top of the 18 giving the Averett goalkeeper Gretchen Sheperty little chance. To cap things off in the 75th minute freshman Melissa Linn passed to Bradley who chipped the keeper and finish the game with the 5-1 win. Sheptery made 15 saves in the game while Evans had one. The Monarchs dominated the shot count 34-3. With the win, the Monarchs will host Christopher Newport University in the championship game Saturday at 2 pm.
