October 13, 2006 Freshman Michelle Anderson started the scoring 15 minutes into the first half after following junior Chrystal Bradley's shot off the post. Bradley scored one of her own on an assist from senior Ashley Sloan less than two minutes later. With 10 minutes left in the first half freshman Erica Nath scored a header off of a Sloan corner kick. Anderson made it 4-0 with an unassisted goal after regaining possession from the defense and beating the goalkeeper. The Monarchs came back in the second half with even more scoring opportunities. Freshman Whitney Roberson scored in the 55th minute on an assist from Bradley. Two minutes later, Bradley knocked one from 35 yards out to beat the keeper in the lower left corner. Anderson scored again after a passing combination from Roberson to senior Jamie Oakes and across to Anderson who finished it. Another two minutes passed and Bradley scored her third goal of the game on a pass from Roberson. With just under 19 minutes remaining in the game, Roberson found Anderson for her fourth goal of the game, tying the Monarch record for goals in a game. Freshman Melissa Linn finished the scoring with an assist from Roberson. Roberson's four assists also ties the Methodist record for assists in a game. The Methodist defense and goalkeepers Amanda Evans and Erin Swanson combined to keep Bluefield from even taking a shot. The Monarchs will host Mary Baldwin on Tuesday at 4 pm. |
