Catholic strikes quick, knocks off Lady Monarchs 4-2

WASHINGTON, D.C. –
A first half deficit was too much for the Methodist Lady Monarch women’s soccer team to overcome as Methodist dropped a 4-2 decision at Catholic on Saturday. The defeat was the second straight for Methodist, dropping the Lady Monarchs to 3-8 overall.

Methodist got behind the 8-ball quickly as all four Catholic goals came in the first half, and that included a hat trick by Kate Rosenberg. Emily Clark scored the first Catholic goal unassisted in the 21st minute, followed by Rosenberg’s three goals.

She scored in the 27th and 29th minutes off assists by Sara Cooke, and then again in the 41st minute on an assist by Laura Kaye. That gave Catholic a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Methodist broke on the board on a goal by Chrystal Bradley in the 52nd minute. The final Lady Monarch score came on a direct kick goal by Marie Finley in the 72nd minute. Amanda Evans recorded four saves for Methodist.

Methodist travels to neighboring NCAA Division II rival Mount Olive on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
