regular
season
finale
NEWPORT
NEWS,
Va. –
A little
more
than 24
hours
after
winning
their
regular
season
home
finale,
the
Methodist
Lady
Monarchs
had to
turn
around
and
travel
to
Christopher
Newport
the
final
game of
the
regular
season.
A
victory
would
have
given
the Lady
Monarchs
a share
of their
second
USA
South
Athletic
Conference
championship
in the
last
three
seasons.
However,
that
wasn’t
in the
cards on
Sunday
at
Captains
Field as
Christopher
Newport
blanked
Methodist
2-0. The
defeat
ends a
four-game
winning
streak
for
Methodist,
which
finished
the
regular
season
7-10-1
overall
and
3-2-1 in
the USA
South.
The Lady
Monarchs
finished
third
overall
in the
USA
South.
Emily
Renkin
provided
both
goals
for
Christopher
Newport
(9-7-1,
5-1).
She
scored
in the
11th
minute
off an
assist
by Leah
Leavitt
to give
the Lady
Captains
a 1-0
lead.
The
scored
stayed
that way
until
the
waning
moments
when
Renkin
scored
unassisted
in the
88th
minute.
Methodist
goalkeeper
Amanda
Evans
recorded
eight
saves,
while
her
Christopher
Newport
counterpart
Erin
Wojtkun
had four
saves.
Methodist
plays
host to
Ferrum
at 12
p.m. on
Tuesday
in the
quarterfinals
of the
2005 USA
South
Athletic
Conference
Tournament
at
Monarch
Soccerplex.
