The
Methodist
Lady
Monarch
women’s
soccer
team’s
hopes of
a USA
South
Athletic
Conference
Tournament
Championship
and NCAA
Division
III
National
Tournament
berth
were
dashed
on
Saturday
as
Methodist
fell 7-1
at
Christopher
Newport
in the
USA
South
Tournament
championship
game.
Making
it to
the
title
game for
the
second
straight
year,
Methodist
ends its
season
at
9-11-1.
Christopher
Newport
(14-4-1)
dominated
from the
start,
scoring
two
goals in
the
first
seven
minutes.
Leah
Leavitt
scored
the
first
Captain
goal in
the
second
minute
off an
assist
by
Hillary
Carney.
That was
followed
by Emily
Renkin’s
goal in
the
sixth
minute
off
assists
by Paniz
Asgari
and
Ashleigh
Dota.
The
scored
stayed
2-0
until
the 36th
minute
when
Ashley
Welner
scored
unassisted
to give
Christopher
Newport
a 3-0
lead at
halftime.
The
Captains
wasted
little
time at
the
start of
the
second
half as
Asgari
scored
in the
46th
minute
off an
assist
by
Amanda
Peters,
followed
by
Renkin’s
unassisted
goal in
the 49th
minute.
The
remaining
Christopher
Newport
goals
came
from
Welner
in the
59th
minute
and from
Asgari
in the
78th
minute.
Methodist’s
lone
goal was
unassisted
by Marie
Finley
in the
62nd
minute.
Methodist
goalkeeper
Amanda
Evans
recorded
four
saves.
Finley,
Chrystal
Bradley
and
Danielle
Nourie
were
selected
to the
All-Tournament
team for
the Lady
Monarchs.
