Women's Soccer Defeats Christopher Newport 3-1
Freshman Whitney Roberson scores game-winning goal

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Christopher Newport was 8-3-2 all-time versus Methodist going into the game Saturday.  The Captains ended the Monarchs' season last year in the conference tournament, but the Monarchs made their presence known with a 3-1 victory today.  Methodist moves to 8-3 on the season and 3-0 in the USA South while Christopher Newport falls to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Christopher Newport took more shots, but the Monarchs were able to capitalize on their opportunities.  Junior Chrystal Bradley scored first for the Monarchs when a Christopher Newport foul was called in the box and Bradley converted a penalty kick.  The half ended with the Monarchs leading 1-0.  The Captains tied the game on a penalty kick of their own by Emily Renkin.  Less than a minute later, freshman Whitney Roberson scored the eventual game-winning goal on a volley with the assist from Bradley.  Freshman Melissa Linn put a cap on the day with a penalty kick goal with a little more than 6 minutes remaining in the game.

Methodist goalkeeper Amanda Evans finished with 9 saves while Erin Wojtkun made 4 for Christopher Newport.

The Monarchs will travel to NC Wesleyan on Wednesday to face the Bishops at 4 pm before returning to the Monarch Soccerplex on Saturday to play Bluefield at 3 pm.
