October 10, 2006 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- As freshmen on the Methodist Monarch Woman's soccer team, we have progressed greatly since preseason. We have become a very close team who had learned that we win together and lose together. Our record is 8-3-0 overall and 3-0 in our conference.
We recently played CNU (10/7/06) who was voted number one in our conference while we were tied for second with Greensboro. In the game everyone came together to play our best yet. The first goal came about with a PK placed perfectly in the back of the net by Chrystal Bradley, to set the score at 1-0. Then CNU came back to tie us with a PK on a cheap call in the box. Tied, now it was all about who wanted it more. With a quick return down the field Whitney Roberson flicked one right over and into the net. All we had to do now was sit back and defend, just hold them there. Then down she goes, and Whitney has been fouled in the box again. This time up to the PK line is Melissa Linn with a powerful kick pinging off the crossbar and into the goal to place us at a solid 3-1 victory over CNU! The whistle signaling the end of the game was an emotional victory for the whole team, but most exciting for the seniors, seeing as CNU has always been a rival school.
Our next game is Wednesday October 11 against NC Wesleyan and we will have to come out just as hard as we did this past Saturday. Practices aren't easy play by play practices. We have to get physically and mentally stronger if we are going to continue to play to win. There are always things that can be improved and our practices are where we work to improve our play. We need to stay focused and come back 9-3-0 (overall) and 4-0 (in conference) Wednesday night. "Lets Go Monarchs!"
