Lady Monarchs edge Ferrum 1-0 on Senior Day

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
The Methodist Lady Monarch women’s soccer team kept up its winning ways on Saturday and sent their seniors out in style with a 1-0 victory over Ferrum at Monarch Soccerplex.

Methodist seniors Jessica Ballard, Stacey Noonan and Sarah Christie played their final games at Monarch Soccerplex, and the Lady Monarchs won their fourth straight game to improve to 7-9-1 and 3-1-1 in the USA South Athletic Conference. It was also Methodist’s third straight shutout.

The game wasn’t as close as the score indicated. The statistics were one-sided as Methodist had 22 shots, while holding Ferrum to a single shot. However, Panther goalkeeper Sarah Hutzler was strong with nine saves.

Methodist had the game’s lone goal when Brenda Chambers scored off a Hutzler deflection in the 59th minute. Ashley Sloan was credited with the assist on the play.

Methodist goalkeeper Amanda Evans recorded her third straight shutout.

Methodist concludes the regular season on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Christopher Newport.
