Monarchs Shutout Greensboro to Open Conference Play
Methodist finishes with 22 shots to Greensboro's 6

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Methodist head coach Tony Tommasi and Greensboro head coach Franco Bari faced off at the Monarch Soccerplex in their first conference game as new head coaches.  The Monarchs snapped a two-game losing skid to defeat Greensboro College 2-0.  Greensboro falls to 0-5 while the Monarchs move to 3-2. 

The Monarchs started things quickly in the 10th minute when freshman Whitney Roberson fed a ball down the sideline to junior Chrystal Bradley who struck the ball to the far post to go up 1-0.  The first half finished with Methodist leading 10-2 in shots.

In the second half Methodist held the majority of the possession and Bradley dribbled through the defense in the 64th minute to slip another by the Greensboro goalkeeper.  The Monarch defense led by Teresa Futrell, Ashley Sloan, Elyse Myers and Melissa Linn along with goalkeeper Amanda Evans held on for the shutout.  Evans finished with 4 saves while Greensboro goalkeepers Shana Saganich and Kristen McGuire combined for 11 saves.

The Monarchs will play Meredith College on Saturday back at the Monarch Soccerplex at 12 pm.
