Playing
its 2005
USA
South
Athletic
Conference
women’s
soccer
opener
at rival
Greensboro
on
Thursday,
the
Methodist
Lady
Monarchs
hoped to
break
out of a
long
scoring
slump
that’s
lasted
four
games.
However,
the host
Pride
scored
two late
goals to
win a
2-0
shutout
over
Methodist.
The Lady
Monarchs
are now
2-5
overall
and 0-1
in the
USA
South.
Methodist
had its
opportunities
with 12
shots,
including
five on
goal.
But
Greensboro
goalkeeper
Keri
Wells
recorded
five
saves.
Meanwhile,
the
Pride
(2-3,
1-0)
broke
through
with two
goals
after a
scoreless
first
half.
Jackie
Cianfrani
put
Greensboro
up 1-0
with a
goal in
the 65th
minute
off an
assist
by
Stephanie
Keough.
The
Pride
increased
the lead
to 2-0
with a
goal by
Mary
Sandifer
in the
77th
minute.
Methodist
goalkeepers
Amanda
Evans
and Erin
Swanson
combined
for six
saves
for the
Lady
Monarchs.
Methodist
is off
this
weekend,
and then
plays
host to
Averett
on
Wednesday
at 4
p.m.
