advance
with 1-0
shutout
thriller
over
Greensboro

What had
been a
frustrating
season
for the
Methodist
Lady
Monarch
soccer
team has
been all
forgotten
thanks
to
another
successful
run in
the USA
South
Athletic
Conference
Tournament.
Fresh
off
opening
the 2005
USA
South
Tournament
with a
2-0
victory
over
Ferrum
on
Tuesday,
Methodist
took it
a step
further
on
Friday
with a
1-0
shutout
victory
over
Greensboro
at
Christopher
Newport.
The
victory
pushes
Methodist
(9-10-1)
into the
USA
South
Tournament
championship
game for
the
second
straight
season.
The Lady
Monarchs,
seeded
third in
the
tournament,
face
either
North
Carolina
Wesleyan
or
Christopher
Newport
in the
Saturday’s
championship
at 2
p.m. at
Captains
Field.
After a
scoreless
first
half,
Methodist
took a
1-0 lead
in the
62nd
minute
as
Chrystal
Bradley
scored
the
game’s
lone
goal off
an
assist
by
Ashley
Sloan.
It was
the 16th
goal on
the
season
for
Bradley.
Methodist
had just
withstood
an
offensive
onslaught
by
Greensboro
in which
Lady
Monarch
goalkeeper
Amanda
Evans
recorded
two
saves.
The Lady
Monarchs
had nine
total
shots
and five
shots on
goal to
only six
and two
for
Greensboro
(7-10-1).
