Monarchs Open With 5-0 Win Over Hood
Sophomore Michelle Anderson scored a goal with two assists for Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Methodist women's soccer team opened the 2007 season with a 5-0 shutout win over Hood College on Saturday. Sophomore Whitney Roberson opened the scoring for the Monarchs with the eventual game-winner. The Monarchs move to 1-0 overall the season while the Hood Blazers start 0-1.

Sophomore Ashley Kolano gave the Monarchs a 2-0 lead at halftime before the team fired off three additional goals in the second half. Senior Chrystal Bradley found sophomore Michelle Anderson early in the second half for a goal before Kolano connected with sophomore Erica Nath on a corner kick to give the Monarchs a 4-0 advantage. Roberson scored again on assists from senior Brenda Chambers and Anderson to cap off the day at 5-0.

Freshmen Kasey Nichols and Emily Stratton split time in goal with three saves to preserve the shutout.

The team will host Washington (Md.) on Saturday at 12 pm.
