Bradley scores twice as Lady Monarchs outlast Huntingdon 3-1

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
With her team needing a spark in a sluggish contest, Chrystal Bradley answered the call for the Methodist Lady Monarch women’s soccer team on Saturday.

Playing host to Huntingdon in the second game of the InnKeeper/Methodist Invitational, Bradley scored twice in the second half as Methodist pulled away with a 3-1 victory over a scrappy Huntingdon team at Monarch Soccerplex. The victory is the second straight for the Lady Monarchs to start the 2005 season. In the first game on Saturday, Virginia Wesleyan was a 5-2 victor over Rhodes.

With the score tied 1-1 entering the final 10 minutes of the contest, Bradley scored the go-ahead goal off a deflection off a crossing pass from Jessica Ballard in the 81st minute. Two minutes later, Ballard found Bradley at midfield, and the sophomore outran the Hawk defense and scored one-on-one against Huntingdon goalkeeper Jenny Wade in the 83rd minute.

The Hawks (0-1) had taken a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute on a penalty kick by Katie Hannah. However, Methodist tied the game in the 65th minute on a goal by Morgan off an assist by Marie Finley.

Methodist goalkeeper Amanda Evans recorded four saves, while Wade recorded six saves for Huntingdon.

The Lady Monarchs play host to Rhodes on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the InnKeeper/Methodist Invitational, while Huntingdon plays Virginia Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
