Bradley
scores
twice as
Lady
Monarchs
outlast
Huntingdon
3-1

With her
team
needing
a spark
in a
sluggish
contest,
Chrystal
Bradley
answered
the call
for the
Methodist
Lady
Monarch
women’s
soccer
team on
Saturday.
Playing
host to
Huntingdon
in the
second
game of
the
InnKeeper/Methodist
Invitational,
Bradley
scored
twice in
the
second
half as
Methodist
pulled
away
with a
3-1
victory
over a
scrappy
Huntingdon
team at
Monarch
Soccerplex.
The
victory
is the
second
straight
for the
Lady
Monarchs
to start
the 2005
season.
In the
first
game on
Saturday,
Virginia
Wesleyan
was a
5-2
victor
over
Rhodes.
With the
score
tied 1-1
entering
the
final 10
minutes
of the
contest,
Bradley
scored
the
go-ahead
goal off
a
deflection
off a
crossing
pass
from
Jessica
Ballard
in the
81st
minute.
Two
minutes
later,
Ballard
found
Bradley
at
midfield,
and the
sophomore
outran
the Hawk
defense
and
scored
one-on-one
against
Huntingdon
goalkeeper
Jenny
Wade in
the 83rd
minute.
The
Hawks
(0-1)
had
taken a
1-0 lead
in the
54th
minute
on a
penalty
kick by
Katie
Hannah.
However,
Methodist
tied the
game in
the 65th
minute
on a
goal by
Morgan
off an
assist
by Marie
Finley.
Methodist
goalkeeper
Amanda
Evans
recorded
four
saves,
while
Wade
recorded
six
saves
for
Huntingdon.
The Lady
Monarchs
play
host to
Rhodes
on
Sunday
at 4
p.m. in
the
InnKeeper/Methodist
Invitational,
while
Huntingdon
plays
Virginia
Wesleyan
at 2
p.m.
