Monarchs Tie Lynchburg 1-1
Freshman Michelle Anderson scores Methodist's game-tying goal

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs took a break from conference play to face the Lynchburg Hornets on Tuesday.  The tie moved the Monarchs to 13-3-1 while Lynchburg moves to 10-5-3.

Lynchburg held a distinct 7-2 shot advantage in the first half maintaining the majority of possession.  In the 42nd minute Hornet Emily Sledd crossed a ball to Erin Barry waiting in the corner of the 18 to shoot one past Monarch goalkeeper Amanda Evans.  With the Hornets up 1-0 at halftime, the Monarchs came back in the second half ready to counter.  Methodist had more opportunities in the second half with 5 shots.  In the 74th minute, freshman Michelle Anderson gathered the ball and dribbled through the Lynchburg defense to blast one past the Lynchburg goalkeeper and tie the game.

Neither team could score during the remainder of the game.  The teams played two ten minute overtime periods with both teams having solid chances, but no goals.  Evans made 7 saves during the 110 minutes while Ashley Stern had 2 stops for Lynchburg.

The Monarchs will travel to Ferrum on Saturday to play at 1 pm before hosting the USA South Conference first round tournament action on Tuesday, October 31st.
