October 17, 2006 The Monarchs had plenty of opportunities to score with freshman Whitney Roberson finishing first in the 7th minute on an assist from senior Ashley Sloan. Bradley finished her first goal on a header after a cross from freshman Melissa Linn. Roberson then found freshman Ashley Kolano waiting to blast a ball from outside the eighteen yard box for the third goal of the game. Less than a minute later, Erica Nath gave junior Brenda Chambers a ball inside the six that Chambers slotted past the keeper. In the 37th minute senior Jamie Oakes scored after a pass from senior defender Elyse Myers. Freshman Christina Layson found Sloan inside the six who passed the ball to freshman Meredith Bledsoe waiting on the back post to score the sixth goal. Bradley finished her hat trick in the last five minutes of the first half. She received a ball from junior Teresa Futrell to poke past the keeper in the 41st and then Linn found her in the middle of the field to strike the upper far post past the Mary Baldwin goalkeeper. The team tried to work things around and involve everyone in the second half and still rattled off seven more goals. Freshman Michelle Anderson received a pass from Roberson to score in the 47th and then Sloan had a direct kick from 20 yards out and nailed it to give the Monarchs the 10-0 lead. Linn came back and scored two unassisted goals after she stole the ball from the Mary Baldwin offense. Bradley added an assist to her day when she found Roberson running through the six to score. Jamie Oakes scored her second goal of the day with an assist from Chambers and Kolano finished the scoring in the 76th minute after receiving a pass from Oakes. The Methodist defense and goalkeepers Amanda Evans and Erin Swanson combined to hold Mary Baldwin to one shot. Squirrel keeper Maggie Connelly finished the game with 19 saves. The Monarchs will host Peace on Thursday at 4 pm. |
