Women's Soccer Falls to Maryville in First Round of the NCAA Tournament
Maryville scores 2 goals in the second half to win 2-0

MARYVILLE, TN-  The Monarchs traveled to Maryville, TN for the weekend to take on Maryville College in the first round of the NCAA tournament.  The women were returning to the tournament for the first time in eleven years after advancing to the national championship in 1995.  After a scoreless first half, the Maryville Scots scored two in the second to win 2-0 and end the Monarchs most successful season since 1995.  The Monarchs finish at 16-4-2.

Methodist clearly dominated the first half of play out shooting the Scots 8-4.  The weather was cold and rainy making the field conditions tough and the ball slick.  Both teams had great chances but Monarch goalkeeper Amanda Evans and Scots goalkeeper Lindsay York came up with the stops to keep the game scoreless.

The second half kicked off and both teams tried to warm up again, but it was Maryville that struck first when Jaimie Roberts broke down the left flank and crossed into the goal box where Rachel McRee was waiting to slip it by Evans.  The Monarchs kept pushing trying to jumpstart their offense.  Junior Brenda Chambers had a shot sail just over the goal and junior Chrystal Bradley had two stopped by York.  In the 77th minute, Roberts found space again for the Scots and chipped a shot into the right side netting to give Maryville the 2-0 lead.  The Monarchs were still creating opportunities, but just could not find the back of the net.

Evans finished with 4 saves for the Monarchs.  Sophomore Erin Swanson entered the game in the 79th minute when Evans was injured and made a save of her own.  York had 8 saves for Maryville.

Maryville advances to play Washington & Lee Saturday at 6 pm.
