open
2005
women’s
soccer
season
with 2-1
victory
at
Meredith
RALEIGH,
N.C. –
Better
late
than
never
was the
theme
for the
Methodist
Lady
Monarchs
in their
2005
season
opener
on
Thursday
at
Meredith.
The game
was
originally
scheduled
for 4
p.m. But
due to a
scheduling
mishap
with the
referees,
it
didn’t
begin
until
5:30
p.m.
Once
game
started,
however,
little
could
stop the
Lady
Monarchs
as they
pulled
off a
2-1
victory
over the
Angels.
It’s the
second
straight
season
that
Methodist
has
opened
the
season
with a
victory.
The Lady
Monarchs
took a
1-0 lead
late in
the
first
half
when
freshman
Janie
Trovato
scored
her
first
collegiate
goal in
the 35th
minute
off a
Chrystal
Bradley
assist.
Methodist
increased
the lead
to 2-0
in the
61st
minute
when
Bradley
scored
on a
penalty
kick.
Meredith
scored
late,
but Lady
Monarch
goalkeeper
Amanda
Evans
was
stellar
in her
first
collegiate
start.
Methodist
plays
host to
the
InnKeeper/Methodist
Invitational
this
weekend
and
Monarch
Soccerplex.
The Lady
Monarchs
play
host to
Huntingdon
on
Saturday
at 4
p.m.,
followed
by
Rhodes
on
Sunday
at 4
p.m.
