Holds Off Meredith to Win 4-3
Freshman Whitney Roberson scores second
career hat trick
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- With the Monarchs up 3-1
with 10 minutes remaining, the Meredith Angels
decided the game was not over yet. They
tied the game with two goals in the 81st and
85th minutes but freshman Whitney Roberson
finished things off with a game winning goal in
the 86th minute to put the Monarchs up 4-3.
Both teams' records move to 4-2 on the season.
Meredith junior Nicole Boucher struck first off
of a cornerkick from her teammate Anna Buryk to
head in the first goal in the 12th minute of the
game. Roberson scored two in the waning
minutes of the first half to end the half with
the Monarchs leading 2-1. Marie Finley
scored in the 58th minute of the game
after Ashley Sloan sent a ball into the box.
Meredith responed with another goal by Boucher
before Meredith Cowart tied the game at 3 in the
85th minute. Not settling for overtime,
Roberson scored her third goal and game-winner
with only 4:51 remaining off of a deflection
from Angels keeper Stephanie Wells.
Monarch goalkeeper registered 6 saves while
Wells had 14.
The Monarchs will
travel to Averett on Wednesday to play the
Cougars at 4 pm.
