Women's Soccer Finishes Undefeated in USA South
Freshman Hevyn Diers scored the only goal of the game

CARY, NC-  Having already secured the number one seed in the USA South Conference Tournament, the Methodist women's soccer team set out to finish the regular season with an undefeated record in the conference becoming back-to-back USA South Regular Season Champions. With a 1-0 win over Meredith, the Monarchs improve to 14-4 overall this season and 9-0 in the USA South while Meredith drops to 10-7 overall and 6-3 in the conference.

The score was 0-0 at halftime, but that is not to say there were not opportunities. Methodist's freshman goalkeeper Kasey Nichols made five saves in the half to go along with senior defender Brenda Chambers making two saves off the line to keep the Monarchs in the game. The Methodist offense kept pushing forward creating eight shots of their own, but neither team could score.

Just 1:26 into the second half, freshman Hevyn Diers 12th goal of the season with a shot from outside of the eighteen-yard box just out of reach for the Meredith goalkeeper Shae Tharrington. The Monarchs held on to their 1-0 lead with both teams still fighting with near misses and clutch saves. Methodist finshed the game with the win capturing their second consecutive USA South Championship.

Nichols made seven saves in the game while Tharrington had nine stops for Meredith.

The USA South Tournament begins on Tuesday with the top four seeds hosting a first round game. With one more game to be played Sunday in USA South play, the seeds have not been finalized, but it is likely the Monarchs will host either Peace or Mary Baldwin on Tuesday.
