Mount Olive strikes quick, blanks Lady Monarchs 5-0

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. –
The struggles continued for the Methodist Lady Monarch soccer team on Tuesday as it dropped a 5-0 decision at neighboring NCAA Division II rival Mount Olive. The defeat was the fourth straight for Methodist, which slips to 3-9. Mount Olive, coached by former Methodist All-American Chris Shaw, improves to 8-5.

The home standing Trojans scored all five goals in the first half.

The first two were by Lindsey Brennan off cross passes from Emily Escolas and Jackie Jimenez in the 12th and 18th minutes. Escolas increased the Mount Olive lead to 3-0 with goal in the 35th minute off an assist by Brennan, followed by a goal by Gina Dos Santos in the 39th minute off an assist by April Jacobs.

Jimenez finished the Trojan scoring with a goal in the 41st minute off an assist by Jessica Smoot.

Methodist goalkeeper Erin Swanson recorded with saves in the defeat.

Methodist returns to USA South Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Christopher Newport at 5 p.m.
