December 12, 2006 After finishing the season 16-4-2 and receiving a bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time in eleven years, the Monarchs are piling up the accolades in the postseason. Junior Chrystal Bradley, freshman Whitney Roberson and junior Teresa Futrell have all been selected to the 2006 All-State team. From Fairfax, VA, Bradley scored 37 goals and notched 14 assists for 88 points on the season, to top every woman in the country. Second in scoring was Roberson from Kitty Hawk, NC. The 2006 USA South Rookie of the Year, Roberson scored 25 goals and had 16 assists in her freshman campaign. Defender Teresa Futrell from Virginia Beach, VA anchored the center of the Monarch defense that only allowed 22 goals in 21 games. The squad consists of students from NCAA Division II and Division III colleges and universities throughout the state. North Carolina sports information professionals submitted nominees and NCCSIA members selected the teams. Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The organization seeks to promote collegiate athletics and student-athletes at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information. NCCSIA selects all-state teams for men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball on the College (Division II, III, NAIA) and University (Division I) levels. More than 400 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.
