In one
of its
most
physical
games
played
this
season,
the
Methodist
Lady
Monarch
women’s
soccer
team
battled
to a 2-2
tie on
Tuesday
against
visiting
USA
South
Athletic
Conference
rival
North
Carolina
Wesleyan
at
Monarch
Soccerplex.
The draw
puts
Methodist
3-9-1
overall
and
1-1-1 in
the USA
South.
The game
was
plagued
by
penalties,
as a
combined
63 fouls
were
called
on both
teams.
In
addition,
each
team
also was
issued a
yellow
card.
North
Carolina
Wesleyan
scored
the only
goal in
the
first
half.
Tori
Tenner
scored
on a
slide
kick in
front of
the
Methodist
goal off
a cross
pass
from
Reva
McCloud
in the
23rd
minute.
However,
Methodist
answered
early in
the
second
half. In
the 53rd
minute,
Chrystal
Bradley
took a
long
pass
from
Ashley
Sloan,
outraced
the
Bishops’
Mayra
Gomez
and
hammered
home the
goal
from 13
yards
out from
the left
side of
the
penalty
box.
The
score
stayed
tied
until
the 78th
minute
when
North
Carolina
Wesleyan
took a
2-1 lead
on a
goal in
traffic
by Buffy
Casto.
But
Methodist
answered
two
minutes
later
with the
equalizer
on a
35-yard
direct
kick
goal by
Marie
Finley.
Neither
team was
able to
get the
game-winner
in the
two
overtime
periods.
Methodist
goalkeeper
Amanda
Evans
and
North
Carolina
Wesleyan
goalkeeper
Bryanne
Godfrey
each
recorded
five
saves.
Methodist
