Methodist Tops N.C. Wesleyan 3-0
Senior Christina Layson scores game-winner

ROCKY MOUNT, NC-  The Methodist women's soccer earned another shutout in a 3-0 win at N.C. Wesleyan Wednesday. The Monarchs improve to 11-2 overall this season and 6-0 in the USA South while N.C. Wesleyan is 4-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

The Monarchs had early opportunities to score with three chances narrowly missing off the post, but senior Christina Layson put Methodist on the board just before halftime in the 42nd minute with a solid finish inside the 18-yard box. The Monarchs improved their play in the second half determined to finish their chances. Sophomore Ashley Kolano took a throw-in on the left flank to find senior Chrystal Bradley. Bradley beat her defender and slid a cross over to sophomore Whitney Roberson who one-timed it past the N.C. Wesleyan goalkeeper Sarah Hess. After a hard foul in the box by N.C. Wesleyan, Bradley scored on the penalty kick opportunity for the 3-0 win.

Methodist out shot the Bishops 28-8 with freshmen Emily Stratton and Kasey Nichols combining in goal for the shutout, each with two saves.

The Monarchs will host Washington & Lee on Saturday at 2 pm.
