Monarchs' Offense Rolls Through Peace 10-0
Junior Teresa Futrell scores first two goals of the season

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs defeated Peace 10-0 on Tuesday to win their first round game of the USA South Tournament.  They move to 15-3-1 overall while Peace finishes their season 3-12.  The Monarchs 10 goals broke another record to give them 104 goals on the season.  The record had been held by the 1989 team (in 23 games) for the past seventeen years.  The Monarchs also set a new assist record with 71 this season.

Junior Chrystal Bradley started the scoring with a penalty kick in the 12th minute.  Less than three minutes later Bradley found freshman Michelle Anderson who blasted one across the goal to give the Monarchs the 2-0 lead.  Freshman Ashley Kolano fed junior Brenda Chambers for the third goal before Chambers found freshman Whitney Roberson for a goal.  The first half ended with the Monarchs winning 4-0.

The Monarchs came back out in the second half with a quick four goal run in the first six minutes of play.  Roberson found Bradley breaking through the defense before Kolano fed freshman Erica Nath for a goal.  Anderson gave Bradley another assist as she broke loose past the defense and Chambers finished a cross from Kolano to make the score 8-0.  In the 65th minute of play, Roberson led junior Teresa Futrell with a ball through the offsides trap to allow Futrell to score.  Less than two minutes later, it looked like instant replay when Roberson fed Futrell again for her second goal of the day.

With the win, the Monarchs will host the USA South Tournament on Friday and Saturday.  The semifinal games will be on Friday at 11:30 am and 2:30 pm.  The Monarchs will face the Averett Cougars in the 2:30 pm game Friday.  The championship game will be Saturday at 2 pm.
