Piedmont
cashes
in on
opportunities
in 5-3
victory
over
Lady
Monarchs

Cashing
in on
scoring
opportunities
proved
to be
the
difference
in
Saturday’s
women’s
soccer
showdown
between
Methodist
and
Piedmont.
In the
end, it
was
visiting
Piedmont
that
cashed
in as
the
Lions
knocked
off
Methodist
5-3 at
Monarch
Soccerplex.
The
defeat
drops
Methodist
to 3-6
overall
on the
2005
season.
Although
Methodist
stayed
on the
attack
in the
first
half,
Piedmont
converted
three
chances
in the
first
half.
Bergdis
Gudnadottir,
who
recorded
a
hat-trick
for the
Lions,
scored
the
first
Piedmont
goal on
a
20-yard
strike
from the
top of
the
penalty
box in
the 16th
minute.
After
Methodist
tied the
game on
Chrystal
Bradley’s
penalty
kick,
Piedmont
struck
again
with a
goal by
Haley
Boyce in
the 23rd
minute,
followed
by
Gudnadottir’s
second
goal in
the 28th
minute.
Methodist
trimmed
the
deficit
to 3-2
at
halftime
on
Brenda
Chambers’
goal in
the 41st
minute
on a
corner
kick.
Piedmont
responded
again in
the
second
half.
Gudnadottir
scored
her
third
goal in
the 56
minute,
followed
by
another
Boyce
goal in
the 65th
minute
to
increase
the Lion
lead to
5-2. The
closest
Methodist
would
cut the
deficit
was on
Bradley’s
second
goal in
the 80th
minute.
Methodist
travels
to UNC-Pembroke
on
Tuesday
at 7
p.m.
