October 15, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Methodist scored first, but Rhodes came back to score two goals and take the 2-1 win over the Monarchs Monday afternoon. The Monarchs move to 11-4 overall this season while Rhodes improves to 8-6 on the year. The Methodist offense came out pushing early and kept working for the forwards to break free. Freshman Hevyn Diers laid off a pass to split the defense and find freshman Brianna Cella for the first goal of the game in the 21st minute. Rhodes snuck a goal in just before halftime when Caroline Voelkel's shot was saved and Kara Purdy was there for the rebound to tie the score at one. Both teams had opportunities early in the second half, but it was Rhodes who broke the tie. Bailey Morgan crossed a ball from the left corner to find Jessie Cassidy to finish off the volley. Methodist out shot the Lynx 12-10 with freshman goalkeeper Kasey Nichols making four saves for the Monarchs. Rhodes' goalkeeper Becca Clarin also had four saves. The Monarchs will host USA South rival Christopher Newport Saturday at 12 pm. |
