November 10, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- It was a tale of two halves as the Monarchs fell behind 2-0 to Roanoke Saturday evening before the Monarchs came back in the second half with a goal. Their comeback fell short as Roanoke went on to win 3-1. Methodist finishes the season at 17-5, while Roanoke will advance to face Lynchburg on Sunday with a 17-3-1 record. Meredith Grunewald gave Roanoke a 1-0 lead in just the second minute of play on a cross from the right side that bent into the far post of the goal. Late in the first half, Roanoke got in again on a cross that Kristen McCoy finished for the 2-0 lead. Methodist regrouped in the second half and freshman Hevyn Diers put the Monarchs on the board with a goal in the 62nd minute on the assist from senior Chrystal Bradley. Methodist was still pushing forward looking for the equalizer when Roanoke's Margaret Houston snuck in a third goal on a breakaway. The Monarchs were out shot 23-13 with freshman goalkeeper Kasey Nichols making nine saves. |
