September 15, 2007 ST. MARY'S CITY, MD- The Methodist women's soccer team took their first road trip of the year, but fell to St. Mary's College of Maryland 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs fall to 4-1 on the year while St. Mary's moves to 4-3. The Seahawks were awarded a free kick in the fifth minute of the game and took a 1-0 lead on a header off of the service. The Monarchs fought back and tied the game at one when senior Chrystal Bradley fired a loose ball in the eighteen yard box. The score remained tied at halftime. Methodist freshman goalkeeper made a diving save in the 53rd minute before St. Mary's buried the rebound for the 2-1 lead. Later in the half, senior Brenda Chambers headed the ball off the goal line to keep the Monarchs in the game. Methodist had opportunities to tie, but the St. Mary's defense held on for the win. The Monarchs outshot St. Mary's 14-11 with Emily Stratton and Nichols combining for four saves in goal. Marie Oben had seven saves for the Seahawks. Methodist will kick off conference play on Wednesday at Peace at 4 pm. |
