September 9, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Freshman Hevyn Diers put the Monarchs on the board in the first minute of the game on the way to a 5-0 win over Sweet Briar. The win moves Methodist to 3-0 on the season, giving the team its best start since 1996. Sweet Briar falls to 1-3 on the year. The Monarchs controlled the play through most of the game but after Diers' goal early, Methodist struggled to find the back of the net until the second half. Just one minute into the second half, senior Chrystal Bradley crossed the ball from the left corner to find sophomore Whitney Roberson for the second goal of the game. Less than two minutes later freshman Brianna Cella received a pass from Bradley to split the defense for the goal. Cella returned the favor to Bradley later in the half for Bradley to beat the keeper in the corner for the four goal lead. Sophomore Michelle Anderson dribbled through the Vixen defense for the final Methodist goal. The Methodist defense with freshman Emily Stratton held Sweet Briar to just one shot for their third shutout in as many games this season. Kristen Johnson had 14 saves for the Vixen. Methodist will host Guilford on Wednesday at 4 pm. |
