October 13, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs hosted 25th ranked Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. Both teams managed to contain the opponent's offense before Washington & Lee struck first and went on to win 2-0. The Monarchs move to 11-3 overall this season while Washington & Lee moves to 12-2 on the year. Much of the first half was played in the middle of the field before Washington & Lee's Kate Corr took a ball down the left flank and moved to the top of the 18-yard box and scored in the upper left corner for the 1-0 lead. The Generals held on for the 1-0 lead at halftime and added an insurance goal in the 55th minute of play. The Monarchs kept battling to create opportunities to score, but the Washington & Lee defense held on for the shutout. Washington & Lee finished with seven shots to Methodist's six. Methodist goalkeeper Kasey Nichols made four saves in the game while the Generals' Kiki Moreo had one save. Washington & Lee will face Rhodes on Sunday at 2 pm before Methodist hosts Rhodes on Monday at 2 pm. |
