September 8, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs added another win to their record with a 4-0 shutout over Washington (Md.) on Saturday. The Monarchs move to 2-0 on the year while Washington falls to 0-4 this season. Sophomore Whitney Roberson put Methodist on the board with the eventual game-winner on assists from sophomore Ashley Kolano and senior Chrystal Bradley. The freshmen took over with three players scoring their first collegiate goal. Freshman Hevyn Diers gave the Monarchs a 2-0 cushion at halftime over top of the Washington goalkeeper. Freshman Brianna Cella started the second half scoring with a shot to the left corner on assists from Diers and Bradley in the midfield. Freshman Emily Stratton capped things off with a goal past a diving keeper with the assist from sophomore Tina Varnell. The Monarchs outshot the Shorewomen 33-4. Methodist goalkeeper Kasey Nichols made three saves on the day while Caroline Grier had 17 saves for Washington. Methodist will be back in action tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 pm hosting the Sweet Briar Vixen. |
