end
winless
streak
with
thrilling
2-1
victory
over
York
FAYETTEVILLE,

Perhaps
this was
what the
Methodist
Lady
Monarch
women’s
soccer
needed
as a
jumpstart
to
finishing
its
season
on a
strong
note.
Staring
a
five-game
winless
streak
in the
face,
the Lady
Monarchs
pulled
off a
thrilling
2-1
victory
over
visiting
York on
Saturday
at
Monarch
Soccerplex.
The
victory
improves
Methodist
to 4-9-1
overall.
Methodist
drew
first
blood in
the 10th
minute
when
Chrystal
Bradley
took a
direct
kick
from
Marie
Finley
inside
the
penalty
box and
scored
to give
Methodist
a 1-0
lead.
That
scored
stayed
the same
for the
rest of
the
first
half and
into the
early
second
half
when
York
scored
the
equalizer
on a
header
by Maura
Duginan
off an
assist
by Jill
Stanley.
However,
Janie
Trovato
scored
what
proved
to be
the
game-winning
goal for
Methodist
in the
59th
minute
off an
assist
by
Danielle
Nourie.
Down the
stretch,
the Lady
Monarchs
fended
off 10
York
shot
attempts
to
preserve
the
victory.
Methodist
goalkeeper
Amanda
Evans
recorded
seven
saves in
the
victory.
