Callahan steps down as
Methodist women’s tennis coach
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
After two ultra successful seasons,
Kelly Callahan announced her resignation
on Friday as the Methodist women’s
tennis head coach, Methodist Athletic
Director Bob McEvoy announced. A
nationwide search for Callahan’s
replacement will begin immediately.
“We wish Kelly the best in her endeavors
and thank her for a job well down at
Methodist College,” McEvoy said.
It was a job well done for Callahan. In
two seasons, she sparked the Lady
Monarchs to a 24-8 overall mark,
included back-to-back undefeated seasons
in the USA South Athletic Conference.
Callahan led Methodist to consecutive
USA South regular season and tournament
championships, and she was twice
selected USA South Coach of the Year.
This past season, Methodist was 13-3
overall under Callahan, including an
11-match winning streak during the heart
of the regular season. The Lady Monarchs
finished the season ranked 11th in the
Division III Atlantic South Region.
A former collegiate standout at
Kentucky, Callahan came to Methodist in
July of 2003 after successful stint as
an assistant at NCAA Division I Auburn
in the Southeastern Conference.
