March 11, 2008 ELON, NC- Methodist traveled to Elon University on Tuesday for a match with the Division I program. The Phoenix shut out the Monarchs 7-0. Methodist moves to 6-2 this season while Elon improves to 9-5 overall. Elon took a 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches as NCAA Division I scoring allots one point for the doubles decision. Seniors Tiffany Tucker and Jenny Smith lost 8-2 at number one while junior Shannon Vivian and freshman Kaitlin Flaherty played the closest match with an 8-5 loss at number two. Sophomore Lindsey Davis and senior Lauren Hulse were defeated 8-2 at number three. The Phoenix stayed strong through the singles competition. Tucker lost 6-1, 6-0 at number one while Flaherty lost 6-0, 6-0 at number two. Smith was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at number three as was Vivian at number four. Davis and Hulse lost 6-3, 6-1 at number five and six singles respectively. The Monarchs will travel to Pfeiffer on Monday for a 3 pm match. Photo courtesy of Terry Tucker |
