Women's Tennis Receives ITA Academic Awards
Monarchs named ITA All-Academic Team

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.-  The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recognized individuals and teams earlier this month for academic success. The Methodist University women's tennis team was named an ITA All-Academic Team and six individuals received ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).

Leighton Bull, Kaitlin Flaherty, Heather Ford, Lauren Hulse, Jenny Smith and Tiffany Tucker were named Scholar-Athletes. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).

The team finished the 2008 season 21-4 overall, with the most wins in Methodist women's tennis history after winning the USA South Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships.
