Bull, Smith, and Tucker Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

Student-athletes maintained minimum 3.50 GPA to qualify for the award
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Seniors Leighton Bull, Jenny Smith and Tiffany Tucker have been named 2007 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes. The award is based on three criteria including: varsity letter winner, a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current year (2006-07), and enrolled for at least two semesters. release

Tiffany Tucker earned a 3.89 GPA through the Fall semester to earn Second Team honors
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced that Methodist women's tennis student-athlete Tiffany Tucker has been named to the District III All-Academic Team. Tucker's 3.89 cumulative grade point average at Methodist earned her second team honors in the college division.  release

Fourth Ranked Sewanee Defeats Monarchs 5-0
The women's tennis team finishes with a 19-5 record this season
SEWANEE, TN-  After a big win over Principia College on Friday, the Methodist women's tennis team were set to face fourth ranked host Sewanee on Saturday morning.  Sewanee prevailed over the Monarchs with a 5-0 victory.  release

Women's Tennis Wins First NCAA Match in Program History
Courtney Vail completed the 9-0 sweep with a 10-2 second set tiebreaker
SEWANEE, TN-  In just their third team appearance in the NCAA Regionals, the Methodist University women's tennis team defeated Principia College 9-0 to advance to the second round.  The Monarchs advance to face host Sewanee on Saturday at 10 am.  release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN-  The NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Committee has selected the 41 teams that will participate in the Championships.  The NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Committee selected 48 teams to compete for the Team Championship.  release

Fifteen Monarchs Earn All-Tournament Honors
Methodist won four of the six spring championships with four student-athletes named the MVP
BURLINGTON, NC- 
The USA South completed the tournament championships on Sunday, April 15.  The Monarchs won more trophies than any other school with four, while Christopher Newport won one and Ferrum won the other.  release

Methodist Tennis Completes Sweep With Women's Championship
Junior Lauren Hulse earned the final win to determine the Monarchs' victory
BURLINGTON, NC- Two weeks ago, the Monarchs lost a tough 5-4 contest at Christopher Newport essentially giving the regular season championship to the Captains as they went on to remain undefeated in conference play.  Methodist sought sweet revenge on Sunday afternoon with a 5-3 victory in the tournament championship, dealing Christopher Newport their first loss of the season.  Methodist improves to 18-4 overall while Christopher Newport falls to 21-1 on the year.  release

Sophomore Courtney Vail secures win at singles and doubles
BURLINGTON, NC- With a 9-0 shutout victory over Shenandoah, the Methodist women's tennis team advances to the USA South Tournament Championship against rival Christopher Newport on Sunday.  Methodist improves to 17-4 overall while Shenandoah finishes their season at 12-4.  release

Junior Jenny Smith improves to 16-2 on the season
BURLINGTON, NC- The Monarchs started the USA South Conference Tournament with a 9-0 win over Ferrum College.  Methodist improves to 16-4 overall while Ferrum finishes at 3-10.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for women's tennis.  A total of 19 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams for women's tennis.  Four Methodist student-athletes are honored with first and second team honors.  release

Methodist women shut out the Hawks 9-0
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- A week away from the conference tournament, the Methodist women's tennis team finished their regular season with a 9-0 win over the Chowan Hawks.  Methodist improves to 15-4 overall while Chowan drops to 1-4.  release

RALEIGH, NC- The Monarchs finished USA South Conference play with a 9-0 sweep over the Peace Pacers.  Methodist improves to 14-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference overall while Peace falls to 7-10 overall and 3-3 in the conference.  release

Sophomore Shannon Vivian won at number three doubles and number four singles
NEWPORT NEWS, VA- After trailing 2-1 after doubles, the Monarchs could not overcome the Captains, falling 5-4 in the USA South Conference match.  The Monarchs are 13-4 and 5-1 in the conference overall while Christopher Newport is 15-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference.  release

PRINCE GEORGE, VA- The Methodist women's tennis team traveled to Prince George, Virginia on Friday to play a rescheduled match against Shenandoah University.  The Monarchs prevailed 8-1 to remain undefeated in the USA South.  The Monarchs are 13-3 overall while Shenandoah is 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.  release

Freshman Nikki Giannini wins at number six singles for the Monarchs
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The women's tennis team remains undefeated in conference play with a 8-1 win over Greensboro College on Thursday.  The Monarchs move to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the USA South while Greensboro falls to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.  release

Monarchs Sweep Bishops 9-0 to Open Conference Play
Sophomore Courtney Vail wins at singles and combines with Shannon Vivian to win at doubles
ROCKY MOUNT, NC- After bad weather cancelled their Shenandoah match scheduled for late February, the Monarchs were anxious to open conference play on Monday against North Carolina Wesleyan.  The women swept the Bishops 9-0 for the first win on the way to defending their conference title.  The Monarchs move to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the USA South while NC Wesleyan moves to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference.  release

CHAPEL HILL, NC- The Monarchs took their tennis indoors on Friday to the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill courts and lost a tight 4-5 match to William Smith (NY).  The Monarchs move to 8-3 overall this season while William Smith moves to 3-1.  release

Monarchs Earn 8-1 Win Over Meredith
Junior Leighton Bull dominated Sydney Williford in a 6-0, 6-0 defeat
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Methodist women's tennis took on nearby Meredith College Wednesday afternoon to win the match 8-1.   With the Monarchs currently ranked number 15 in the region and Meredith ranked number 25, it was a key regional match-up for the season.  The Monarchs improve to 8-2 overall this season while Meredith falls to 6-2.  release

Sophomore Shannon Vivian earns upset victory over Emory's Allison Fick
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs' women's tennis team went on the road this weekend to defeat Spelman 7-1 before falling to defending national champion Emory 1-8.  The Monarchs move to 4-2 overall this season.  Spelman stands at 1-5 and Emory is 3-3 this season.  release

Golf, lacrosse, softball, and tennis released today
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The USA South Conference office released the preseason polls today for the remaining spring sports.  Baseball was released earlier this month.  The polls are based on votes from each conference member's head coach without voting for themselves.  release

Monarchs complete fall season in Sewanee, TN
SEWANEE, TN-  After the men's ITA regionals last week, the women's tennis team traveled to the University of the South in Sewanee, TN this weekend to compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Region Championships.  Many of the Monarchs drew tough competition, but came out with great results.  release

WILMINGTON, NC-  The women's tennis team traveled to the University of North Carolina Wilmington this past weekend to compete in the 6th Annual UNCW Intercollegiate.  The team faced talented NCAA Division I competion in preparation for another strong season.  release
