October 6, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs completed day two of the Methodist Invitational on Saturday. After two days of play, Methodist has claimed one championship and will play in four singles semifinals tomorrow in addition to two doubles championships. Seniors Tiffany Tucker and Jenny Smith advanced to the A flight doubles semifinals after a win this morning against Fayetteville State. This afternoon the duo defeated Pfeiffer to win the championship. Senior Lauren Hulse and junior Shannon Vivian advanced to the B flight championship with a win this afternoon and will face Meredith's Bitler and Parks Sunday at 1:30 pm. Juniors Courtney Vail and Linsey Davis will team up in the B flight doubles consolation championship Sunday at 1:30 pm. After losing the first round matchup on Friday, Vail and Davis defeated Webster and Sanford of Meredith Saturday afternoon to face Lee and Sanchez of Fayetteville State in the championship Sunday. Tucker received a bye in the first round of A flight singles before winning her next match and advancing to the flight semifinals Sunday at 10:30 am. Freshman Kaitlin Flaherty won her first match over Meredith's Meredith Roberson easily before fighting off top seeded Ines Nieves of Fayetteville State in a 4-6; 6-2; 1-0 (13-11) battle. Flaherty will face Jenna McGary of UNC-Pembroke in the other semifinal. With two wins, Tucker and Flaherty could face off in the flight championship Sunday at 1 pm. Vivian advanced to the B flight semifinals after winning 6-4, 6-1 over Pfeiffer's Juliana Reyes. Also advancing to singles semifinals is Hulse in the C flight singles. Hulse won her first singles match Saturday afternoon 6-2, 6-3 over Jonnell Carpenter of Pfeiffer. Vivian and Hulse will both compete in their semifinal matchup at 9 am Sunday. For complete
