March 21, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Methodist started things off Friday morning with an 8-1 victory over NCAA Division I N.C. Central University. Continuing on to USA South opponent Averett University, the Monarchs won 9-0. Methodist moves to 9-3 overall this season and starts 2-0 in the USA South. N.C. Central drops to 1-12 while Averett is 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Monarchs opened with a sweep of the doubles matches at N.C. Central. Seniors Tiffany Tucker and Jenny Smith earned the 8-0 shutout at number one and senior Leighton Bull and freshman Kaitlin Flaherty won 8-1 at number two. Senior Lauren Hulse and junior Shannon Vivian won 8-1 at number three. Tucker took the 6-2, 6-4 win at number one singles while Flaherty lost 6-0, 6-1 at number two. Smith won 6-1, 6-2 at number three while Davis took the 6-1, 6-2 win at number five. Vivian and Hulse won shut outs at four and six singles respectively 6-0, 6-0. Bull and Flaherty played number one doubles at Averett winning the 8-1 match. Vivian and Hulse won 8-0 at number two while senior Sara Seiling and freshman Heather Ford won 8-0 at number three. The Cougars won just one game through six singles matches. Tucker won 6-0, 6-0 at number one while Flaherty won 6-0, 6-0 at number two. Smith defeated the number three singles 6-0, 6-0 and Vivian won 6-0, 6-1 at number four. Davis and Hulse finished the match with 6-0, 6-0 victories at five and six singles. The Monarchs will travel to N.C. Wesleyan on Tuesday to play Huntingdon at 3 pm. NC
