March 3, 2008 ORLANDO, FL- The Methodist women's tennis team traveled to Orlando, FL for four matches over Spring Break. The Monarchs opened with wins over Misericordia and St. Mary's (IND) on Sunday. Methodist moves to 4-1 overall this season. In the first match of the day, the Monarchs swept the doubles competition against Misericordia. Seniors Tiffany Tucker and Jenny Smith won 8-3 at number one while senior Leighton Bull and freshman Kaitlin Flaherty won the 8-0 shutout at number two. Junior Shannon Vivian and senior Lauren Hulse combined to win 8-1 at number three. Methodist continued to dominate throughout the singles matches, winning all six. Tucker won 6-0, 6-2 at number one while Flaherty won 6-1, 6-1 at number two. Smith won the number three singles match 6-0, 6-3 and Vivian claimed the number four at 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Lindsey Davis won 6-0, 6-0 at number five and junior Courtney Vail won 6-1, 6-2 at number six. The Monarchs took on St. Mary's in the second match opening with another 3-0 lead after doubles. Tucker and Smith won 8-3, Flaherty and Bull won 8-1, and Vivian and Hulse won 8-0. Tucker won her second singles match 6-3, 6-3 while Flaherty held off the competition 6-4, 6-4 at number two. Smith won 6-2, 6-1 and Vivian won 6-2, 6-2. Davis won at number five 6-4, 6-3 while Hulse lost a close 6-4, 6-3 at number six. The Monarchs will take on King's College Monday at 11:30 am. |
