March 6, 2008 ORLANDO, FL- The Monarchs added another win to their record on Thursday with a 9-0 victory over the College of St. Scholastica. The shutout is the team's fifth this season. Methodist improves to 6-1 overall while St. Scholastica is 7-3 this season. Seniors Tiffany Tucker and Jenny Smith shut out the competition at number one doubles to win 8-0 while freshman Kaitlin Flaherty and senior Leighton Bull held off 8-5 at number two. Senior Lauren Hulse and junior Shannon Vivian won 8-3 at number three doubles. Tucker won the number one singles match after a second set tiebreaker 6-2, 7-6(4). At number two, Flaherty won 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-1) and Smith won 6-3, 6-2 at number three. Vivian won 6-2, 6-3 at number four and sophomore Lindsey Davis took the win at number five 6-3, 6-3. Junior Courtney Vail completed the sweep with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 win at number six. The Monarchs next match will be Tuesday at Division I opponent Elon at 5 pm. |
