March 18, 2008 MISENHEIMER, NC- The Methodist women's tennis team traveled to Division II Pfeiffer University on Monday for a match against the Falcons. The Monarchs had an early lead after the doubles portion of the match, but Pfeiffer came back to win 5-4. Methodist moves to 6-3 this season while Pfeiffer improves to 7-3 overall. Seniors Tiffany Tucker and Jenny Smith lost 9-8 (3) in the number one doubles match, but senior Leighton Bull and freshman Kaitlin Flaherty teamed up to win 8-4 at number two. Junior Shannon Vivian and senior Lauren Hulse won 8-6 at number three for Methodist to take the 2-1 advantage after doubles. Flaherty won 6-2, 6-3 at number two singles and Smith knocked off her competition 6-0, 6-2 at number three while Hulse was defeated 6-2, 6-2 at number six. The Monarchs pushed the one, four and five singles matches to three sets before Pfeiffer won all three to clinch the team victory. Tucker lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 at number one and Vivan lost 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 at number four. Sophomore Lindsey Davis lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at number five.
