Methodist University and the Lura S. Tally Center for Leadership Development announce that the university will be a host for the General Shelton Leadership Challenge, July 17-22.

The General Shelton Leadership Challenge is a one-week summer residential experience for rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors in high school. The camp will take place on the campus of Methodist University, and is designed to help students expand their knowledge and skills of what it takes to be an effective leader. The cornerstones of values-based leadership – such as honesty, integrity, compassion, diversity, and social responsibility – are the foundations of the experience.

“The Tally Center is excited to provide this new opportunity for young people,” said Dr. Andrew Ziegler, director of the Tally Center for Leadership Development. “The General Shelton Leadership Challenge will be a wonderful experience for those high school students who want to learn how to lead others.”

The challenge’s core curriculum focuses on leadership roles and accountability, team building, leadership styles and situations, social responsibility, integrity as a leader, public speaking, changing behaviors, and goal setting.

“We are excited to bring the General Shelton Challenge to Methodist University and to the Fayetteville community,” said Doris Munoz, director of the Shelton Challenge at Methodist University. “General Shelton is one of the most successful leaders in our country’s history. The Shelton Challenge is designed to educate and empower youth who aspire to be leaders through General Shelton’s cornerstones of leadership.”

The cost to attend the General Shelton Leadership Challenge is $500, and includes deposit, lodging, meals, all curriculum materials, low and high ropes training, transportation during the week, and evening activities. Applications for the camp program are available. For an application and reference form, please visit methodist.edu/Shelton or contact Munoz at dmunoz@methodist.edu or 910.630.7022. All applications, references, and full payment for the camp are due by June 17.
