Methodist University to Host Pangea Oct. 21

Pangea returns to Methodist University Oct. 21 in Huff Concert Hall in the Reeves Fine Arts Building. There will be a reception in the Union-Zukowski Lobby at 6 p.m., with the show starting at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

“Our theme for this year is the world carnival,” said Edith Olivarez, president of the International Club, which organizes Pangea. “We will be showcasing performances from around the world, incorporating different types of carnivals and festivals from around the world. In the spirit of carnival, and the Halloween season, the audience is encouraged to come in costumes.”

Pangea has been presented by the International Club since 2009. The club, which is open to all students, started the show as an outlet to share their different cultures and perspectives with the community. The event always offers an evening of amazing multicultural entertainment, though it takes a different approach each year, borrowing its structure from concepts that have ranged from Arabian Nights to Jules Verne to a game show.

Methodist University has a strong international presence, with 188 international students currently enrolled, a large number for a university of this size. As well as the International Programs Office and the Study Abroad office, MU also boasts the Center for Global Education, one of the four paths of the MU Journey. The university also hosts an international film festival every semester.
